Noam Chomsky: Die USA sind der größte Terror-Staat

Für Chomsky sind die USA „der führende terroristische Staat“, deren Außenpolitik seit langem in der ganzen Welt für Instabilität verantwortlich sei: Unzählige Attentatsversuche auf Fidel Castro, Unterstützung der rechten „Contras“ in Nicaragua, Einmarsch in den Irak – inklusive schwerer Menschenrechtsverletzungen in Abu Ghraib und Guantánamo. Folter, so schreibt Chomsky, sei dabei allerdings „noch das Geringste der vielen Verbrechen“, derer sich die USA und andere Großmächte schuldig machten. Schlimmer noch seien „Aggression, Terror, Subversion und wirtschaftliche Strangulation“, die von Washington ausgingen.

„Es gibt die Möglichkeit der Schaffung eines sich konstituierenden oder nicht offiziell erklärten salafistischen Kalifats im Osten Syriens, und das ist genau das, was die Unterstützer der [syrischen] Opposition [also die USA und ihre Verbündeten] wollen, um das syrische Regime zu isolieren und die schiitische Expansion im Irak durch Iran einzudämmen.“
Und mit Blick auf den Irak:“Dies schafft ideale Voraussetzungen für die Rückkehr von ‚Al Qaida im Irak‘ [AQI, ISI] in ihre früheren Enklaven in Mosul und Ramadi. Und einen neuen Impuls, den Jihad der irakischen und syrischen Sunniten sowie der übrigen Sunniten der arabischen Welt gegen die ‚Abtrünnigen‘ – das was als Feind wahrgenommen wird – zu vereinigen. Der ISI könnte, durch seinen Zusammenschluss mit anderen Terror-Organisationen im Irak und Syrien, auch einen ‚islamischen Staat‘ ausrufen…“

Die Zeitung veröffentlichte eine Übersicht mit den derzeitigen Frontverlauf. Dabei wird der „safe passage corridor for ISIS fighters“ genau dargestellt. Dieser sichere Korridor ermöglicht es den Terroristen, sich von Mosul nach Syrien abzusetzen:

Am 15. Oktober veröffentlichte Anadolu eine Karte mit Auszügen aus dem höchst “sensiblen“ Operationsplan für Mosul.
„Der Fluchtkorridor nach Syrien wird für Daesh (alias IS) offen bleiben, damit sie (die IS-Kämpfer) darüber Mossul verlassen können“.
Im Klartext heißt das, dass die auf fünf bis sechsTausend geschätzten IS-Kämpfer sich mitsamt ihrem Material ungehindert nach Deir Ezzor und Raqqa in IS-besetztes Gebiet in Syrien absetzen können.“
„Zur großen Überraschung werden ISIS-Konvois, die aus Mosul nach Syrien entkommen, nicht seitens der Koalitions-Kampfflugzeuge attackiert.“
Auch die russische Armee beobachtet den Exodus von Mosul nach Syrien, Generalstabschef Valery Gerasimov warnte:
„Wir hoffen, dass unsere Partner von der internationalen Koalition verstehen, was die Konsequenzen wären, diese Banden frei durch den Mittleren Osten ziehen zu lassen. Terroristen sollten sofort zerstört werden und nicht von einem Land ins nächste gejagt werden.“

Die Geschichte wiederholt sich: Auch Osama bin Laden ließen die USA von seiner umzingelten und bombardierten Höhlenfestung Tora Bora entkommen. Ein sicherer Korridor nach Pakistan war vorhanden. Dies bestätigte der hochrangige US-General Wesley Clark:
„Und dann ließen wir Osama bin Laden von Tora Bora entkommen.“

Last week a Trump administration official decided to inform the news media that the CIA program to arm and train anti-Assad Syrian forces had been terminated. It was welcome news amid a deepening U.S. military commitment reflecting the intention to remain in the country for years to come. As myrecent article in TAC documented, the net result of the program since late 2011 has been to provide arms to al Qaeda terrorists and their jihadist and other extremist allies, which had rapidly come to dominate the military effort against the Assad regime.

One of the keys to understanding its origins is that the program was launched not because of a threat to U.S. security, but because of a perceived opportunity. That is always a danger sign, prompting powerful national-security bureaucrats to begin thinking about a “win” for the United States. (Think Vietnam and Iraq.)

That was wishful thinking not only in regard to the willingness of an Alawite-dominated regime to hand over power to its sectarian foes, but in regard to the assumed Iranian willingness to go along with toppling the regime. Not one of Obama’s advisers had sufficient understanding of regional dynamics to warn the President that Iran would not allow their Syrian ally to be overthrown by an opposition supported by Sunni states and the United States.

But the decisive factor in pushing the administration toward action was the pressure from U.S. Sunni allies in the region—Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar—which began in autumn 2011 to press Obama to help build and equip an opposition army. Turkey was the leader in this regard, calling for Washington to agree to provide heavy weaponry—including anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles—to the rebel troops that didn’t even exist yet, and even offering to invade Syria to overthrow the regime if the U.S. would guarantee air cover.

In 2011 Barack Obama led an allied military intervention in Libya without consulting the US Congress. Last August, after the sarin attack on the Damascus suburb of Ghouta, he was ready to launch an allied air strike, this time to punish the Syrian government for allegedly crossing the ‘red line’ he had set in 2012 on the use of chemical weapons.＊ Then with less than two days to go before the planned strike, he announced that he would seek congressional approval for the intervention. The strike was postponed as Congress prepared for hearings, and subsequently cancelled when Obama accepted Assad’s offer to relinquish his chemical arsenal in a deal brokered by Russia. Why did Obama delay and then relent on Syria when he was not shy about rushing into Libya? The answer lies in a clash between those in the administration who were committed to enforcing the red line, and military leaders who thought that going to war was both unjustified and potentially disastrous.

Zbigniew Brzezinski, who was President Jimmy Carter’s national security adviser, said he was “baffled” by Mr. Obama’s decision to become more deeply involved. “What exactly is our objective?” he asked. “It’s not clear to me that every nondemocratic government in the world has to be removed by force.”
The Syria war is a struggle for power, not democracy, he said. “Is that something we should be engaged in?”

In 2012, probably in spring, Obama reluctantly signed a top-secret executive order, of which little is known other than that it authorized the CIA to provide “non-lethal support” to the rebels in Syria. In concrete terms, then, what the CIA did was to link up its Qatari and Saudi allies with a number of arms manufacturers in the Balkans (Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, etc.). With the backing of NATO, which controls arms exports from the Balkans via EUFOR, Qatari and Saudi secret services began buying up weapons and ammunition from these countries to illegally equip anti-Assad rebels.

Billions of dollars’ worth of arms against Syria

Over the last seven years, several billion dollars’ worth of armament has been illegally introduced into Syria – a fact which in itself is enough to disprove the myth according to which this war is a democratic revolution. Numerous documents attest to the fact that the traffic was organised by General David Petraeus, first of all in public, via the CIA, of which he was the director, then privately, via the financial company KKR with the aid of certain senior civil servants. Thus the conflict, which was initially an imperialist operation by the United States and the United Kingdom, became a private capitalist operation, while in Washington, the authority of the White House was challenged by the deep state. New elements now show the secret rôle of Azerbaïdjan in the evolution of the war.
